Hello, I just installed my new AMD FX-8350 and EVGA GTX 960 and now when I turn my computer on I can go to start Windows and it will take me as far as the sign in (sometimes it crashes and takes me to BSOD before that) before it either restarts or goes to the BSOD.

Did I do something wrong on install? What have I gone and messed up here? I've kind of put pieces together but I wouldn't call myself super adept or anything.

Help!!!

For context this is an install of a new CPU and graphics card on the same mobo and posu

760GM P23 (fx) is the mobo
power supply is apower ak series 850w

I've tried starting in safe mode, repair. I've reset the BIOS. I used the stock graphics card to make sure it wasnt an issue with the graphics card and the same problem persisted. I've now gotten 2 or 3 different versions of the BSOD.

update: So I've been trying a couple of the suggested solutions on the net to no avail I've tried booting from my win 7 disc but I cant ever get anywhere before it shuts down and takes me back to the repair loop which eventually sits me down at the BSOD again

Yeah, as tea urchin mentioned the PSU is probably what's important here. My bet would be that as the graphics card tries to draw extra power as it's usage increases (i.e. as the windows desktop loads) it's hitting the max draw from the psu which then causes a crash as it can't function properly. I had a similar issue a while ago but what would happen was the card would crash during high load with the message that its drivers 'failed and had recovered' and refuse to run any more 3D programs/games until I restarted the system.

Assuming your motherboard has onboard graphics, try removing the graphics card entirely (for now) and running from that. If it doesn't BSOD then at least you know it's the card (or the card's power draw) and not the CPU.

How do I install this program without being able to load windows? Is there another way to do this?

I tried to run from the disk that i used to install win7 but it loaded the files and then the same error happened? I'm not sure i know how to chkdsk from the bios /startup menu

I go to the boot menu and seleect the cd / dvd drive. Then it says 'press any key to boot from cd' so i press a key and it says 'windows is loading files' where it loads for a while and does the windows startup screen.... but then it never makes it past this screen it just goes back and continues to do what it was doing :/ and I end up at the blue screen again.

Am I missing something here or did i do it wrong?

Sorry I must seem totally incompetent :/

so then is the CPU not getting enough power because of the connector type? how do i make sure the cpu can get the power it needs to load windows? (am i understanding the problem here?)

is it a matter of getting a better power supply or is there a different way to hook it up so that the cpu can get the power it needs? ah this is so frustrating!

so the answer is a different motherboard????! oh no! that's awful :C xx

im not sure i know what you mean by this ??? :c
