New CPU and motherboard lowers frames

recently switched from an amd6300fx 3.5ghz to a Intel i7 6700k 4.0ghz and I'm seeing significantly less frames and even freezing in games . Ive overclocked the i7 to 4.6ghz and still swing around 30-50 frames less I'm rather confused by this and would love some help.

fresh install of the os? and did you plug the monitor to the gtx 970?

Monitor is plugged into the graphics card, I didn't fresh install os could that be the issue ?
