At the insistence of a friend, I decided to upgrade my CPU from an AMD Phenom II X4 970 (five years old) to an AMD FX-4350 Vishera Quad-Core 4.2 GHz Socket AM3+ 125W.
Mobo is Asus M5A97 EVO Socket AM3+ ATX AMD motherboard.
Recently installed a solid state drive, worked fine.
After upgrading the CPU, the computer doesn't boot. The power goes on, the fans spin, led lights come on, mobo lights are on, etc. However, there's no beeping. I can hear the hard drives running (still have my old drive for files, etc.). The monitor stays in shutdown mode, and there seems to be no power running to the keyboard (no lights come on) and mouse (infrared "ball" doesn't come on).
I put the old processor back. Same problem.
I removed memory, moved memory, tried new memory. No dice.
I disconnected the power cord, held the power button in for a bit, and then tried to boot again. Nothing.
Anyone have an answer? I'm hoping it's nothing more than the power supply, since I can't return the chip to Newegg and I really don't want to sink money into a new mobo!
