Hi, so im upgrading my cpu from a g3250 to 1231v3 and i looked up several websites on the best way to do this but a couple reccomended that i take the motherboard out of my case to install the cpu and fan. Is there any reason for this? I did build my pc and know how to take it apart and put it together but im still not comfortable with removing parts out of fear of breaking them. I would rather avoid taking out the motherboard(asrock h81m-hds). Is there any reason for taking out the motherboard other than to make installation easier?

Solution
Why they recommend for you to take the whole board out of the case.
Is because when it is mounted on the motherboard plate of the case via brass standoffs.

The board can flex when a lot of force is used to apply the cooling solution to the motherboard area where the cpu socket is.
If the cooler uses the push pin type where it needs to pass through the four holes provided so it can firmly latch each push pin to the back side of the motherboard.

If you are using an after market cooler that used a back support plate, on the back side of the motherboard where the cpu socket is. and you screw your cooler into the four threaded points provided to tighten down the cooler via screws.

You do not need to remove the motherboard from the case...

It is recommended for push pin type coolers so you can check all four pins are securely latched onto the back of the motherboard. Anyone that is not will cause lift and over heating of your cpu.
