Same old heatsink, but after installing a new mobo and cpu, the cpu fan is running really loud at all times. I reinstalled windows and it made no difference. The same heatsink on a different cpu was very quite.
CPU is idling at around 42c? Seems high, but maybe not. Tried stock heatsink and it shot up past 52c.
Motherboard is the MSI 970-G43. Processor is AMD FX 8320.
Any ideas?
Latest bios.
If it's really unbearable, you could use
SpeedFan as a workaround to lower the fan speeds. Then you could better search for a solution in peace and quiet
You could also look through BIOS for some options on fan control.
However, you may not even have a problem. It could be that your FX 8320 just needs the fan to run that fast to keep it cool. What was the processor before you switched?
This is what you should do, lower the fan speed with SpeedFan to a tolerable level and monitor the core temp. If it spikes, then your problem is that the processor is just running hot and needs high fan speeds for safe temperatures.
Is the heatsink installed properly? Poor contact could be forcing the fan to compensate for the bad heat transfer.
Best of luck!

(And of course always take temperature readings under load. Idle temperatures never mean much. Keep in mind that your processor cannot safely handle temperatures above 65 C, which is the max)
