I've just bought a new CPU & after installing it, everything lights up & fans spin but the display is blank.

I tried resetting the CMOS? BIOS? & that hasn't worked, I read online it could be outdated firmware on the MBO but after putting the old CPU back in that one isnt working now.

Tried to switching RAM round also.

Any other things I can try?

CPU:AMD FX-8350 black edition
Motherboard: ASUS M5A78L-M USB3
Ram: 16GB
SSD/HDD: 250gb SSD/ 1TB HDD
GPU: GTX 1050ti
PSU: 650w gold rated (unsure of brand)

Theoretically yes but it's power section is too little for 8350 coupled by old MB and if it started at high voltage FX 8350 can draw up to 200W and board is made for up to 95W.

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature it's customary to include your full system's specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

Since you tried in upgrading the CPU, you will need to state what you currently have and what you had prior to the issue. Inspect CPU socket for bent or broken pins.
