[SOLVED] New CPU stopping PC boot

Hi folks, recently received a new i7 today and been having some issues post-installation. I'd better get the specs out the way first (these are including the new CPU):

MB: ASUS B150 PRO GAMING AURA
CPU: INTEL I7 9700K
GPU: GTX 980
RAM: 2 X 8GB HYPER-X DDR4
PSU: EVGA SUPERNOVA NEX750G
OS: WIN10 X64

When switching on the PSU switch, both the MB and GPU idle lights come on. However when pressing the PC's power button literally nothing happens, the fans dont move, lights don't flicker, its as if the button isn't even connected. Here's the kicker, I can switch to and from my old CPU (an i5) and it works absolutely fine. Here's some of the steps I've attempted to fix it so far:

  • Updated BIOS to latest version
  • Checked MB compatibility (it is)
  • did the motherboard reset (forgot the term for it) by both using the screw driver method and also removing the battery for 10 mins. (As a note, when later switching back to my old CPU, it recognises the MB reset)
  • Reseated the RAM multiple times
  • Attempted to run with just one stick
  • unplugged all non-essential components (GPU, additional SSD's etc)
  • loosened the CPU cooler slightly

I've been feverishly at this all evening and it's driving me slightly insane, so I've likely missed an attempt I've tried. Please someone save me. Could it be a dud?

Cheers x
