I've had the same CPU for years, while upgrading about everything else in my computer. It's an old, crappy AMD 6120 six-core. It worked well for quite a while in my old setup, but I have recently upgraded my GPU to a STRIX GTX 970, and it just doesn't keep up now.

I've noticed the fans running full speed and parts of computer heating up durring gaming. Only guess is the old CPU.

So I've come to you for suggestions for a new, upgraded one.

Current Specs:
Motherboard - http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-gigabyte-2ac8/
GPU - http://www.asus.com/us/Graphics_Cards/STRIXGTX970DC2OC4GD5/
CPU - http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series%20FX-6120.html
Case - MicroATX Guardian

I don't want to spend more than $300 on some extreme CPU I don't need. I don't render, record or edit videos. I don't stream or anything. All I need is something to compliment my new GPU.

I don't want to spend more than say, $300, as I've just bought a new GPU. I can look to spend more in the future and completely upgrade then, but as I said, my computer has been heating up and the CPU is taking quite a toll from gaming. Worried about fraying the wires, the noise of the fans isn't too great either. Unsettling lol.

If you have any suggestions for a quick CPU fix that wouldn't involve replacing the motherboard, then that would be great. I know in the future I would have to upgrade both, probably the case too, as most motherboards aren't compatible with MicroATX I hear.

Your motherboard doesn't support the 8350.

For under $300 I'd get something like this.

This is what I just read from my motherboard specs:
Support AMD Socket AM3+ (Max 125W) (Zambezi) FX-4100, FX-6100, FX-8100, FX-8120, FX-8150

Shouldnt "Socket AM3+" Support the 8350 CPU?

Ahh thanks. I'm just recently learning more about hardware as I upgrade my PC and I come across problems with it lol. I guess I'll have to plan on upgrading both in the future.
