Would I benefit by upgrading my CPU to a higher market ryzen processor ? I use my PC for browsing the web and light gaming....
Its lightening fast already to be fair

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G CPU
Motherboard: Gigabyte A320 M-H
Ram: 2 x 8GB of HyperX Fury DDR4
SSD/HDD: SSD 120GB, HDD 1TB
GPU: RadeonRX 580
PSU: Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 500W 80 Plus
Chassis: Fractal Design

Had a quick look in my case and the heatsink fan covers the four screws which hold the heatsink in a little bit.

Yes you will benefit. Even a R5 1600 holds an advantage over the 2400g, just in sheer thread count availability, not to mention clock speeds and Lcache.

What's going to hurt the most is the motherboard. You can't do much of anything on an A320 chipset, it's memory speed limited, OC limited.

So while a full cpu will be a benefit, exactly how much of one is the question and that'll depend on usage

Are you sure ?
I did OC the CPU to 3.9ghz from 3.6ghz and the RAM from 2400mhz to 3000mhz and it was fine in Linux but not windows

I'm not interested in overclocking just curious as to whether it would be worth the upgrade ?

Is the R5 AM4 ? This is the only one my Mobo supports

you will be more future proof with 4 cores/8 threads or more. ryzen 5 1500x or 1600 would be a small but upgrade could be Worth it.
if you only play games that arent cpu intensive then its probably not worth it.

The best under 200 is the R5 3600.

Just make sure you update your BIOS to the latest revision first to support this CPU.

If you want to save some money you could go with an R5 2600 which doesnt need a bios update.

Wow. This A320 board has way better bios support for 3rd gen than my MSI b350 which still only has a 3rd gen beta available. this is sad.

OK so the R5 it is then.
I won't need any thermal paste will I , it comes with it right ?

Thanks for your info, how do you know i'd need to upgrade the BIOS ?

Both the 2600 and 3600 come with a cooler (the same that came with your 2400g) and thermal paste pre-applied.

Your system is currently using a 2400g, so any 2xxx CPU will work on your current bios revision.

In order for your system to boot with a 3rd gen CPU, the bios need to be updated, as its a new generation CPU. It is possible the current bios may support 3rd gen, but unlikely.

Follow instructions in your owner's manual to update the bios if you buy the 3600.
