I am going to upgrade my CPU. I use the PC strictly for gaming. It does nothing else. It has custom CPU and GPU loops in it. I am considering a 5900x, but I am on the fence. I have always used Intel and have had great luck with them. I want to give AMD a shot. Also, I overclock. I have read a 5900x does lose a little performance if overclocked. Will a 5900x or 11900k be a better chip?

To be fair, intel has maybe 5% or 10% in the gaming arena, if you can lay down 600 bucks go for it, if not do like hellfire and wait out that 12900k.

The Alder Lake looks good and has made some really nice improvements. MSRP is supposed to be $999.99. I read the article and then looked on YouTube and Jay had a video up about it. I priced out both the 5900x and 11900k with Asus crosshair or maximus and the fastest ram I can get for each platform and they both are pretty close in price. AL is ~33% more, ddr5, win 11. Tough one.

Thats the highest SKU probably. Certainly there would be less expensive options as well. Point is, if you buy this close to release without seeing what you are missing(or not) might lead to buyers remorse later on. 11900k will still remain there.

I agree with you. I am going to wait and see. It was the 12900k that was $999.99. I always try to get top tier or right around it, so I can use it for a while. Hopefully, this turns out to be good.

Even 6 cores do no get properly used in games. 8 cores is still understandable but 16 cores is simply waste of money and resource. Aim for a 8 core Alder Lake and you should be fine.
