Are companies still going to produce new CRT models, it appears that the whole industry is moving to the new LCD technology. The LCD technology is constantly improving with ffd, beter contrast, and brightness. I dunno if buying a CRT is a wise choice, or if it's better to wait for the LCD prices to drop and then buy a nice LCD. With these improvements LCD's appear to be better for text and also for images\video quality than the CRT's. What to u guys think...

Depends what you use if for. If you are gaming and do FPS games I do believe the LCD still has the smear problem with fast movement.

Pete.

LCDs are good for mainstream. Almost everybody would love em from the office to students, internet chatters and surfers...but for ppl who play games and do graphics work a CRT is still the choice. A reason to this is the LCD's incapability to run on different resolutions. As of now they only look and perform well if used under their native resolution. Also for graphics ppl a CRT produces truer colors than LCD (as I have read). But for mainstream as long as the LCDs really drop down to CRT prices we might see less and less of CRTs. It's always about the price ain't it?!

Mmm, even w/ graphics it's an arguable point. If you look, SGI encourages use of their LCD's for their workstations (God I want one of em visualization systems, though it'll set me back afew hundred K:)). Hitachi just released an LCD 2/ 16ms response time- that is 12 ms rise and 4 ms fall which seriously reduces ghosting. Furthermore, with FFD, I really doubt it'll be much of an issue- w/ such response times, one can display 62.5 frames clearly- enough for the human eye to perceive as smooth. Also, Sharp has this 10 bit gamma correction thing which really improves colors, so imo, the way LCD's are heading, they'll be able to replace CRT's in graphics environments as well.

dusijtpmo- don't use stupid internet jibberish to piss me off
