I recently disk cloned from Samsung 256SSD to my new Crucial SSD Due to some bad data it was unbootable so I formatted it again now it only has 238g in stead of 450 plus it has no partitions its all 1 volume. Can any one tell me how to recover this loss space?

Solution

Toto007,

That is very mysterious, Only to eliminate it as a possibility, check / reset the folder options to show hidden files:

[Windows 7] Start button > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Folder Options > View tab > Advanced settings > Select :: Show hidden files, folders, and drives, >> OK.

Any result?

Toto007,

I think what has happened is that when the Samsung 256GB was cloned it did set a partition that is exactly the same size as in the Crucial. When the Crucial was reformatted, the 238GB partition is still set, but the remaining volume became "unallocated", so it's invisible.

Consider installing the free version of Easeus Partition Master. This will show you a graphical representation of the drive and I think you'll see the other volume as unallocated volume. You can select make partition > apply and the volume will be available. At that point you can merge the two volumes into a single volume. Do this carefully so the cloned partition data is not lost.

Thank you for your reply BambiBoom tried the Easeus Partition Master and the graphical representation only shows the empty partition of 238g. I have downloaded and ran Easeus Data Recovery and found all the files in the lost space 316g I don't know how this can be as the drive at full capacity would be less than 480g. But the free program only allows 500mb recovery. Still not showing this lost space in EPM or Disk MGR

Toro007,

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand the current situation. Can you say again what volumes are visible, not visible, a what volumes are recovered or missing? If you can state it this way:

Partition X: used / total capacity
Partition Y: used / total capacity

At the moment it appears that you have recovered 316GB but there is also an empty partition of 238GB, a total of 554GB on a 480GB drive. Were the 316GB compressed?
