New crucial ssd drive showing 0gb storage and not accessible

I have a new ssd drive which i want to clone and use as my main drive.
I have connected with a sata to usb and it is recognised with the usual windows dong. It show in comp management as usb storage device but with 0 storage/memory and it pops up to install drive into (z).The clone programme acronis cant find it either.
I have installed it directly as hd and booted it from win7 disk and is show at the instal part as a 525 gb drive.
Im not sure what i need to do to get this thing recognised by win10..
Any help appreciated...

If your laptop is a standard laptop (I assume it is.), then the only other thing I can assume is that the SSD is somehow non-standard or defective. I would suggest returning the SSD and trying again with the replacement.

I have had no problems Samsung SSD that I've installed. If the replacement presents problems, then I suggest using Samsung SSDs.

I cant get any options in the disk managemet to initialise. The drive always say insert disk in drive z
Which is the letter i have given to the drive.
Would the problem be something to do with the fact that i have to boot the disc when installed as a hard drive with secure boot off and legacy roms enabled..im not sure but im getting no joy unless it is something to do with win 10 not recognising it this way.
I have tested the sata lead on another drive and it works fine.
Any thoughts..?
 
I have installed various hd drives on a standard pc with no isdues so expected this one to be much the same..
The drive comes with only 7-9 mm spacer and a data migratiin software key and instructiin on how to install as hard drive.
Ive looked at the crucial site and cant find any other info which would lead me to the answer but no joy. Baffled to say the least..
