New deity and server available - any interest?

I'm trying to gauge if there is any interest in me bringing up an Empire
server for some not-so-serious games. I've got an older Linux box that I
could use to host the games, and a good internet connection (DSL). I'm a
pretty new deity (i.e. I can compile the code, and have hosted some internal
blitz games with success, but that's it), and I'd like to cut my teeth on
some "real" games, with the understanding that I'll do my best to assure as
smooth a gaming experience as possible, but I might make some mistakes, and
I might have minor server issues.

I see any benefits of my doing this as twofold:
(1) Offer some Empire server resources to the community at large
(2) Improve my deity capability so that ultimately I can host a "serious"
longterm game

I'm flexible as to what the server options would be - game duration, update
schedule, blitz vs. non-blitz, etc. Please post any inquiries, or if you're
interested, to this group, or email me at amheiserbush@yahoo.com.au.

Regards,

James

try running a game with just one type of land unit (kind of like retro empire,
but add one land unit, probably infantry)

then try to figure out what the optimal characteristics of that unit would be,
to make the game the most fun and interesting

(then in future games a second land unit could be added, figuring out what
characteristics and stats would make it most interesting as a complement or
contrast to the first land unit. That way eventually we could get a really cool
minimal set of land units that added the most interest to the game)

A good idea - but I'm not familiar with the retro code, and would prefer to
stick with later releases until I'm adjusted to the intricacies of those.

He said "kind of like retro empire", I don't think he meant to use the retro
code

We didn't change much code, at least not in an important game-play way,
except for shutting off a bunch of commands.

We radically scaled back units and removed all land units, which counts as
a code modification, sort of. Otherwise, the code mods are bug fixes that
hadn't been caught in the server release we based the game on.

Tom (AK) is right, though. If you want to really delve into the "why are
things the way they are?" question, build a stripped down game and play
it, then start adding bits back in.

I will be out on vacation for the next couple of weeks. When I return, I
will be putting up a game.

Apologies for the delay, but I've been too busy lately to think about Empire
at all. :-0

There is also rumor of another PettingZoo game starting soon.
Would anyone have interest in such a game?
I'm trying to time it to start about when Retro will end or so, best approx
for start date is mid June ('04).

Yes, I'm interested in a good battle.

Perfect! I will join in if the game starts after June 10 which is when I
get back from the "holy land".

P.S. Will MIL_TRICKLE and HALFLIFE be enabled? :-0

Hi Bungy,

Cochise, Max, Oleander and one other possible player are interested in
the Petting Zoo. You know we like the long-term big ones with larger
starting continents, but we are open. I'll be watching out for more info
and let the others know.

Max

Add me to the "Petting Zoo". I am the Fodder-Furher and will make you all
pay!

Thanks, Kelly

Thank you all for your interest in my next PettingZoo
game. I am still working out the details, trying to
time it to start near the end of Retro (which might go
on for some time), but I may decide to go ahead and
start it anyway to keep players active while the
grandmaster elitists give each other glow-jobs in
the Retro nuke-off. Please keep checking on RGE,
or if you would like to pre-register and receive a
personal invitation email from the Bungmeister himself,
send your contact info to:
empire _ bungholio @ verizon . net
and I will add you to my personal invite list.

Regards,
Doug of Bungholio
