Hello all,
I'm planning on by a budget new configuration for program developing and image editing. So far I was thinking on the following: ASUS H170M Plus, intel I5 6600, Samsung SSD 650 evo 500GB and 16GB RAM

Any thoughts/advice?

Thank you in advance,
PC

Very sensible CPU and motherboard. The stock cooler should be fine.
Suggest you get a good quality PSU such as seasonic or supernova.
500Gb SSD may be overkill - most people put the OS and the apps on the SSD, then get a 2TB or more HDD for storing pictures, music, games etc

lodders, thank you for your sugestion.

I'm planning on having a second ou even a third HDD from WD for real data files. So I'll get my old computer WD 2T or WD 3T for that purpose.

Concerning the PSU I was looking at something like Nox NX Series 750W or simliar.

lodders, can you please elaborate a bit about what you've just said "Very sensible CPU and motherboard". What exactly did you mean about sensible.

Thanks in advance,
Paulo

That motherboard and CPU will give very good performance, but you are not spending silly money to get it.

Thank you all for your answers. I made a little change to the initial configuration: ASUS Z170M Plus instead of the H170M plus, intel I5 6600, Samsung SSD 850 evo 500GB and 16GB RAM.
It's quite a change to what I was using so far.

Now, I've got to look for a good/budget graphic card. Any suggestions for mainly a photo editing and program developing?

Thank you in advance.

I've just built a high-end rig and for non-gaming purposes we were pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of the NVidia GTX 950 I specifically chose this one because I've had experience with the twin Frozer cooling system and I like it's silence.

I'm also not sure why you would choose the more expensive Z170 series motherboard if you have a processor that can't be overclocked, and the only difference in the H170 and Z170 is overclock capability.

Hello Karsten,

Thank you for your interest.

I decided to go for the ASUS z170m plus because, I've been told by ASUS that, besides other differences, that would give me the opportunity to go for faster memories. At the end, the price of the Z170M PLUSand 2x HyperX HX426C15FB/8 - , 2666MHz (which I got on sale) was about the same as the H170M plus and 16 GB of 2333MHz HyperX. As you know, photo editing can benefit from faster memories so I went for the ASUS advice. So far so good.

Concerning the graphic card I listen to your advice but It's not easy to choose from the many configurations and brands out there (Gigabyte, asus, msi.....just to name a few). For instance you've got :

.....

ufffff, not easy, I guess I need to go deep on that....care to help, thank you for your time,

Paulo
