New Display Advice

I've had my PC hooked up to a 55" plasma TV for the past 4 years and unless I sit a good distance away, everything looks too pixelated so I wanted to solve that. I'm in the market for a gaming monitor w/ FreeSync but I'm not sure if I should get a 60/75Hz FreeSync monitor to save a few bucks, or buy a more expensive 144Hz FreeSync monitor. I've never had a monitor above 60Hz in my life and never had hardware that supports FreeSync or GSync so I'm really out of the loop. If I understood correctly, FreeSync monitors enable communication with AMD GPUs so the display is refreshing the screen just as fast as the GPU is pumping out frames which avoids tearing. While I understand that, I'm not sure how this ties into with refresh rates. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
A higher refresh rate will translate into smoother gameplay especially during action scenes that have fast-moving objects. You won't see the motion blur on a 144Hz monitor that you would on a 60Hz monitor. If you want to spend the money then I would go for a higher refresh rate monitor and really get the most out of your GPU with that FreeSync feature. Think of it like this: Would you rather have your GPU pump out 60 FPS or up to 144 FPS? For the money, a FreeSync monitor with a higher refresh rate will go a long way.
