A double decker PC case design that extends PC case's functionality to a new high. With better division of labor between decks. The lower decks provides power, processing power, major fix storage, and mobility. The upper decks provides devices that needs to be accesss directly or frequently by the user. Such as input output devices, namely camera. LCD panel, keyboard, microphone...
Anybody agree that this design will catch on?

I would have to say I don't see how it has any extra functionality, over the way my computer is setup now.

I can see it now, a virus that controls the robotics, and my computer runs off by itself.

In theory, a virus can also wipe out the hard drive or fried the BIOS, some how that doesn't prevent you from having those parts. Anyway, it is just a suggestion for a second PC. Not design to run mission crtical apps.

It was more of joke, I was pictureing a bunch of those machines running down the street.

It is a creative ideal, however, in my opinion, I don't see the advantage.

Again, very creative, think it needs some tweaking somehow, to make it appeal more to me.

Again a good ideal, but with limited appeal to people. I can see this being useful in commerical purposes (which is where the money is anyways), but as far as your home user is concerned, it seems like it could be akward. Obvisuly this device wouldn't necessarily be huge, but it would be fairly large. Therefore not really being useful to me to take pictures with on a daily basis.

Also technology today is somewhat limited, especially battery technology, which I am assuming that this creation has to have some sort of power supply, especially while mobile. However even a digital camarea can be a bit of power hog (granted this is normally on two AA batteries), however the robotics part of it, deffiantly aren't going to be easy on batteries either.

I think it should be considered too, that there are a lot of moving parts on something like this. The more moving parts there are, the more there is to fail (Yes I realize that computers today have parts that often fail). Plus just the fact that something like this would be rather complex to produce would drive the price upward, again detering the average user from something like this.

Overall, you asked for opinions, you have mine. This is a cool ideal, but, it just doesn't appeal to me yet. This has potential, and is a great ideal for some commercial situations. I am an average user, and at the moment I don't feel this would catch on very quick. In the future though, who knows, maybe we will all have a variation of this.

tks but...
have you seen this?

It is almost a similar concept but without the apparent dual Robot/PC converible design. But robots like these aren't meant to go very fast. Most likely one would visually steer this thing remotely. Certain hospital are using similar rigs in various contraptions between doctors and patients. phone converation is purely voice. Videoconference gives you facial expressions on top of voice. but a mobile robotic videoconference takes long distance communication to another level. Beyond facial expressions, I think the term is telepresence. The point that I am trying to get across is that current PC aren't too far away from being a mobile robotic videoconference machine...

Very good point. The ways we use computers have really changed in a very short amount of time. It will be interesting to see how the uses of computers advances over the next few years.

I have seen those hospital rigs you mentioned, they are very impressive. From what I understand to, they helping a great deal to simpilfy things.

I have not seen those before, they kind of remind me of a furby. However I think I prefer your design over those. Those do look like the ultimate geek project though, of course to be a project you wouldn't buy one already built.

What do you think of wearable PCs? I don't have a link to anything right now, but there are several prototypes out there.

Wearable PC? in form of a jacket or belt or visor?
Why get so close to a PC?
may be all you need is a full power PC from www.oqo.com
Why wear it when you can just carry it?
This must be the ultimate nightmare for the Amish people

Now I really like that OQO device. Wonder if the pricing is reasonable? It seems primarily focused to commercial applications so I am guessing it would be rather pricey. Still very cool, imagine it generates some serious heat though, and battery life probably is OK at best with something of that size. But I'd still like to have one.
