Hi,

Had a question about the new every two option. Does getting a new phone
using this option extend your current contract for two more years with no
changes in the contract? Or is it the beginning of a new contract for two
years?

Don't want to lose anything I have now by changing contracts.

Thanks for any help. Tried searching for an answer, didn't find anything
definite. Also had the usual amusing time calling customer service. It's
sort of hard to believe but for such a simple question I got (4) different
answers from (4) different csr's. I didn't even know there could be (4)
different answers to the same simple question.

Yes, it starts the date again.. So does adding (most) promos.. get the NE2
*first*, and *then* make any other changes additions.....

It extends the current contract by two years. There should not be any
changes, other than the date... provided you stick with a regular phone. If
you get a PDA phone, you will need to change plans because it requires a
data plan now.

If the new phone has features your old one didn't, like picture messaging or
Get It Now, they can be added and you should not need a new price plan.

I think it would be the same with a PDA phone. They
would require the *addition* of a data plan to the line.
It shouldn't effect the current voice plan for that line.

Thanks for the help. The only person at Verizon I ever got consistently
accurate answers from was a verizon store manager and she moved on. (3) of
the (4) csr's I spoke to told me that National Service Access referred to
voice calls nationwide.

I'm sure the other companies are just as bad though and I did appreciate
their service area when we drove out west from Ohio. We went through about
20 states and had service almost everywhere except the desert in Az.

Not necessarily true. I was able to switch FROM a data plan TO an
America's Choice plan last Summer with my Kyocera PDA/Phone without
losing my data abilities. If you want the remote synch capabilities,
then for that you probably do have to get a PDA specific plan.

That was last summer... Things have changed with respect
to PDA phones since 1/15/05.

Oops, actually I think things changed around the same time
as the 100 bonus minute plans came out end of last year.

So they're back to the way they were before, then? I had to get a data
plan originally because I couldn't use the data abilities when I got
the phone.

(with free data) on those phones.

Use the phone as a modem and see if they charge you for data now.

The system keys off the ESN. Right now it will identify a
PDA phone by ESN and require a data plan if you change
voice plans.

If you change voice plans with a PDA phone they will
require you to add a data plan. You can change phones
on an existing plan and it won't flag it (I think). So it
looks like the system only checks when establishing
a plan.

I don't tether it, but I do occasionally use it to do things like check
the weather report or an online phone/address lookup. It's still data
usage.

Sort of... Now you will be forced to get a data plan
whether you use it or not. If you establish (or change to)
a new plan *and* you have a PDA phone you will be
required to get a data plan. One of the options is the
pay-as-you-go data plan where you pay by the kilobyte
-- no data, no charge.
