New, Extremely slow 1TB My Passport Ultra

I have this 1TB My Passport Ultra just purchased. I set to backup the "C" drive, indicating only 70GB needed. In 4 1/2 hours, only 39 % completed via 2.0 USB port. Ran 'Utilities', said was OK. Can't believe this slow!

If you use backup software (eg the WD backup software) all the data is compressed during the copy process to save space, and this compression adds considerably to the time it takes.

It's one reason I never use backup software for file backups (another is I don't trust it) -- I do it manually.
Only time I use software for backup is when creating an image of my hard drive.
