I have just gotten enough money to push my PC build up to about 1500, and I am wondering if the 7950 will be compatible with 965X boards. If not I think I will wait till they release some Nvidia 590 boards for intel.

Current Specs:

Antec Performance 1
MSI Geforce 7950
Hiper 580w
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7
Corsair XMS DDR2 800 4cas
Gigabyte-GA-965P-DS3
Intel Core 2 Duo e6600

Approx. cost: $1550

Ok thanks, but with Nvidia that mix and match their trademarks saying that the 7950 is two 7900s in SLI which is a bit confusing.

A 7950 is basically 2 7900GTX GPUs on one two slot card. It is SLI, just the card comes with the links already connected and it only fits into one PCI-E slot. :)

you can get a really good conroe build for $1,300 with a 7900gt and have enought for a high-end dx10 gpu when they come out.

The next time I will upgrade anything on this system would be next year at this time. By then I will have enough funds for a new video card if I wan't one. Plus I don't plan on upgrading to Vista till that time, and thus dx10 won't be an issue for me.

i thought the 7950GX2 was 2 underclocked 7900GTXs.

makes little sence to buy because unless games have a specific SLi the card runs in its defualt of 1 GPU. which is slower than 1 GTX.

its not a great card. try a x1900xt or a 7900GTX. much better by comparision.

yeah, they might be GPUs for the 7900GTX but its not taking the clockspeed and the ram into account. secondly with the 7950gs your not going to be able to fit an after market cooler or water cooling to it.

just leave it.

dont buy the 7950...it is kind of a waste

get a 7900 or x1800xt or mab even an x1900xt or something like that

that way you will still have money for one of the soon to be kick ass dx10 cards! why would u wait to upgrade to vista? ive played with the beta and it is worth getting soon
