Well it is finally time for a major upgrade. My current build is more than 6 years old now and it is just not working for me anymore. I have put together what I believe to be a good build, however, I am no expert to I was hoping to get some feedback from the community.

I am keeping quite a few components from my current box including the case, power supply and graphics card so that is why those items are not in my list. Here is the link to the build on pcpartpicker.com and the suggested format for a thread of this type from the sticky. Thank you!

Approximate Purchase Date: In the next month

Budget Range: $500-$700

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Buisness, Media

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade:CPU/Cooler, Mobo, Memory, SSD

Do you need to buy OS: Hopefully not. Microsoft was kind enough to give my wife a new license key when her mobo died last month because we just purchased new copies of Windows 10. Will be running windows 10 and Ubuntu

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, amazon.com

Location: Seattle, WA

Parts Preferences: Very flexible. Best bang for the buck.

Overclocking: Maybe a moderate overclock.

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: My goal is to build a solid gaming rig capable of playing top games released in the next 3 years at high/moderate resolution.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Current build is stupid old. I have rebuilt is several times over the years with random parts.

Still running an AMD Radeon 6870HD from about 5 years ago which I will keep until I can replace it with something nice.

Just to give you an idea about the kind of "stupid old" I am talking about. My current cpu is an AMD Phenom II x4 840T 2.90 GHz.

EDIT: It would probably be good if you guys knew all the components in the build. Including the ones I will be reusing. I could not find the graphics card on this site but it is listed above.

CTurbo, thank you for your reply. As I stated, I will be reusing the psu I already have and there is an SSD listed. I am going to use a WD HDD as well.
I have edited my original post with a link which includes the components I will be reusing.

Thanks again!

Ah ok. I couldn't make any recommendations without knowing your psu. Now that I see what you have, I know that you're going to need to replace it sooner than later. If it's been working for you, hang onto ti it until you're ready to get a better video card. Or you could upgrade it now along with the rest of your new parts.

I recommend this instead of investing to much money into a "moderate overclock" which would not really make any difference in anything.

Actually, for just a little more, you could get an i7(Xeon) with hyperthreading.

That looks pretty good. I would get a Cryorig H7 instead of a Hyper 212 Evo, and you should drop the thermal compound and the case fan - those things aren't needed. You should also think about switching out your PSU for something better.
