[SOLVED] New gaming computer help needed

Hello, and good evening

I tried to read the forum rules before posting, so I’m going to try to be as specific as possible, I’m trying to build myself my first gaming computer, yet I’m lost. Quite literally...

I searched some computer building pages, however the sheer amount of different parts and brands is quite confusing to me, hence I turned here for help:

My budget is about 1400€ (+-200)
I’m currently in China (I think most of the parts should be available)
I need a monitor as well.
I would like to be able to play the latest games on at least high / very high details
Since this is my first gaming computer it doesn’t necessarily have to be the best.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

To play the newest games at (very) high, you would be looking for an RTX3060 or better and current GPU prices being what they are, that would eat most of your budget if you want to buy new. Now isn't a good time for building a gaming-oriented PC. Then again, you are in China, so perhaps you will be able to score a great deal from the government cracking down on crypto-miners there.

Can you recommend a few chinese websites so that we can get a good idea of what prices are like there? I'm guessing stuff like JingDong and TaoBao should work but I don't know how viable it is.

my friend recommends www.tmall.com to buy parts as being the cheapest, also, 18th of June should see some major discounts here in China.

And yes, I am as long as you mean to put all the parts together, I can easily find someone to assemble it.

Yes, I’m aware of the fact, however I don’t think the prices of the graphic cards will go down anytime soon (I’ve been waiting since last year’s summer). If what you’re saying is true, is there any alternative for “comfortable” gaming? I’m not looking for hundreds of FPS, games like BG3 for example?

Even used GPUs get expensive when looking at anything with more than 4GB of VRAM, so there isn't really an alternative for decent GPUs other than try your luck with getting one from places that may still be selling some near MSRP if there are any that you can buy from. Since that is the biggest hurdle to building a PC, I'd start with GPU-hunting before worrying about most other components if you want something decent. Even something as slow as a 1050Ti which nobody should be buying today can resell at a ridiculous price right now due to how desperate some people are to have anything to put in their PC.

Depending on what pricing on 11th-gen Intel CPUs is like in China, the i5-11500 might be worth considering for semi-decent integrated graphics while waiting for GPU prices to come down. The cheapest board I would consider for it is the Asus TUF B560M. I got the WiFi version of that board for my own i5-11400 simply because the non-WiFi version wasn't available anywhere. Add at least 16GB of DDR4-3200-16 memory and you should be good to go as far as the core platform is concerned.

Storage depends on what you plan to do with you PC. Personally, I'd get a 250-500GB NVMe SSD for the OS and applications with a separate 500-1000GB SATA SSD for games and data. For the case, get whatever suits your taste. I would recommend looking for models that have air filters on all intakes. Two filtered front intakes and one rear exhaust is all that is really needed for a typical mid-range build. Keyboard and mouse are mostly a personal preference. For gaming, you may want to look for keyboards that have a Windows key lock feature to prevent you from accidentally opening the Start menu in mid-action. I'm not a fan of RGB in general, though the new keyboard I ended up getting because my new motherboard has no PS/2 socket does have RGB and after trying it out for a while, I really like having dim red backlight on my keyboard at night.

By far the biggest concern in China would be the PSU due to the vast number of garbage-quality PSU-shaped-objects in circulation.

Parts availability is really the biggest issue right now. We can all spec you parts but what you can actually get at MSRP and not from a scalper is a whole different story. I am not a big prebuilt fan, but their direct to supplier contract buy has put them in a really good position right now. That is at least the situation in the US. If I were specking a higher end gaming pc right now I would be looking for a 6+ core cpu at the current gen with AMD or the last two to three from Intel @ 4.5 ghz +. I would be looking for higher clocks rather than higher core count for gaming. I would be looking for at least 16gb of RAM and an M.2 SSD of at least 1tb. Get the best GPU you can afford, preferably an nvidia 3000 series. To drive the unit I suggest a 750 + watt PSU from a reputable player that is 80 gold +. The case is really a visual thing as long as it has decent ventilation. Monitor wise it is really just a matter of preference. At msrp you should be able to build something in that class in your budget, in application right now the video card itself will burn 3/4 budget before you even start and backorders on many other parts.

It will perform better than a lot of PC builds. The RTX 3060 Ti is the ideal video card for 1080P but those have been non existent for over a month now.

Borrow one from a friend if you don't have a spare gathering dust somewhere until prices come down to a range you can afford.

Prices are currently nuts even for used cards. If I had something usable to put in place of my GTX1050, I might be able to sell it used for $200+.
