The new comp will be built with whatever specs are required to run the monitor I end up purchasing.
Priorities: Performance and picture quality. Basically I want the best picture quality (contrast, brightness, no ghosting, no color banding) with the best possible real-world performance (color representation, no input or post processing lag, viable connections, and decent viewing angle).
I am content with 1080p but would step up to a higher resolution if it would be a significant improvement in picture quality while maintaining adequate performance.
If I had to choose between two monitors with identical picture quality and performance, only one was larger, I would choose the larger one.
I have no desire to do anything in 3D.
Aside from gaming, I would be watching Blu-Ray movies and surfing/reading text.
I have read reviews, and have gotten conflicting suggestions as to what is adequate for gaming.
I probably won't be able to see most monitors in action before purchasing, I would like to air on the side of caution and choose something that will outperform my expectations as far as picture quality and performance.
