Hi all, I just finished building a new gaming PC, and have gotten sort of stuck on a strange problem. As the title implies, I'm having an issue with static electricity causing a BSOD (almost) every time I touch my optical drive.
My case is an Enermax Ostrog GT, which has a tool less design for the front panel drives. I originally had my optical drive installed without using any screws, but found any time I touched the drive to insert a new disc, or just by accident, I would get a static discharge zap and the HDD indicator light would come on solid for a few seconds, followed by a BSOD and system reset.
I figured this was to do with the tool less design not grounding my drive properly, so I installed a couple screws into the drive to fasten it to the drive bay, and now it doesn't seem to happen as often, but still causes a BSOD about 50% of the time I touch the optical drive.
I'm not sure what else I can do to ground the drive, or if it is in fact being caused from another area around the front bezel. I haven't had any issues with static while touching any other part of the case.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, as I've been waiting quite some time to finish this build!
Please let me know if there's any more information that will help you with this problem
Thanks,
Patrick
