Hello guys,

I appreciate the help in advance! 😀

Well, I would like to build a new system ( for gaming and running engineering software ). The thing is, I have an ASUS MAXIMUS VI EXTREME LGA 1150, still in the box, and not being used, and I would like to use it for the build. However, this motherboard support 4th generation of intel processors, and DDR3, not the new ones in market.

I would like to know, is it recommended to build a new PC, but by using older technology? especially that the price for new generation and old generation components are almost the same! and I will only by saving 400$ for motherboard.

the planned setup is:

Motherboard: ? or Asus Maximus VI
Processors: i7-4790K or 6700K.
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Asus STRIX GTX 1080
PSU: HX750i
Storage: 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD

Thanks

ALI

I would suggest selling the LGA1150 motherboard and going with something more like the second build below. Newer CPU architecture and DDR4 memory are very nice to have. Also...

MEM - Go with 16GB now. If not, you will upgrade soon...
GPU - The ASUS STRIX is a great card, but they are long. Check out MSI or EVGA for an equally good GPU, but over an inch shorter. Less fitment issues...
PSU - Fine, but overpriced. XFX, Seasonic, the EVGA G2 lineup, or filter through the Tier1 or Tier2 list. www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

I am planning to the advanced Asus Strix because I can get it for 599$ at my local store using a coupon.

The selling of the LGA1150 motherboard is diffecult, as I had it for more than two years now, and I could not sell it. That is why I choose to use it for the new system.
