APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Ready now.

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming. I would like the games to run smoothly and look nice for a few years.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, Processor I have an i5 750

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Don't really care, whoever has the best price. I usually buy from newegg but tigerdirect or whatever is fine.

PARTS PREFERENCES: No preference

OVERCLOCKING: Some day maybe but I don't think there is anything that would require an overclocked i5 750 to use.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Not sure. Whatever looks nice while playing games is good.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I would like it to be quite but don't need to spend $100 to lower it by 2 decibels.

I basically just cut and pasted one of the builds from a sticky in this forum.

i5 750 which I have.

Some questions I do have would be is it possible to get 6gb or ram? I was looking around on newegg for that brand and type and they next amount is 8gb which seems like overkill.

Also the graphics card is out of stock at newegg. I can wait for it to come back in but is there another one that is just as good?

Do I need the coolmaster hyper 212 plus fan? In the future I would be interested in overclocking but at this time I don't see a need to do it so I won't be doing it right now.

500GB is more then enough but I always say that before I get a new PC and then at the end I am always out of room. On newegg it looks like for $35ish more I can double the size but I don't know enough about them and I am worried that the 500gb in this build has something that I am overlooking in the larger HDs.

I need new speakers. I have been using the same Altec Lansing ones from the PC I got 12 years ago. They don't need to be anything special but again too many choices so if you have a nice set that weren't to pricey I would be interested in knowing what you bought.

Finally the case is fine since it will just be sitting under my desk but is there anything special about this one? It would be kind of cool to have a lime green or orange but again it is just going to sit under my desk so as long as it works and has a couple of usb ports on the front for headphone/mp3 players/cameras I would be happy.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated and I hope I gave the relevant information. Thank You.

Also the build mentions this stuff. Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM I know there is that substance that goes between the chip and the fan but in my previous PC the substance is already on the chip. Do chips no longer come with it? Is this for extra protection? Or is this used somewhere else now?

Thanks.

You could go for this mobo: ASUS P7P55D-E Pro, has new U3S6 features for some future proofing.

You can go for the 1TB version of the same hard drive, probably the best HDD for gaming. Samsung Spinpoint F3's are also good, price for both is about 90$.

Since you chose 1156 platform you are stuck with dual channel RAM. 6GB is also overkill for gaming + you would lose dual channel benefits.

All stock 5850's are the same, Gigabyte's one is in stock as far as I can see, just as good...

Until you start OC'ing you're good with the stock fan, you can buy and put one in later on... case is one of the best for that money, great airflow.

Stock HSF comes with thermal compound already applied, you will need new thermal compound when you install a different HSF...

not really. Personally I would just buy the cheapest one I could find, but I don't usually keep cards long enough that the warranty would run out.

Typically you don't use a GPU for more than 3 years anyway, and everyone has at least that for their warranty.

Agree with the ASUS mobo.
Case wise the Storm scout is nice, but be aware its a lot smaller, so it may be harder to work in. A 5870 is a squeeze and a 5970 will never fit in case you are eyeing either of those.

HSF's come with thermal compound, but the good ones will result in lower temps. Artic Silver MX-2 is the best out right now. Basically AS5 w/o the burn in time, and not conductive.

I've OC'ed my i5 to 4.3 ghz, 1.41 v i think, using a Hyper 212 Plus with load temps in the mid 50's. So it'll OC fine.

edit: Fixed Link

What does this Mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131621&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=3463938&SID=

do that is better then the one I mention early. It looks like it has usb 3.0 and some sata 6gb/s slots or connections. It that it or are there other improvements. It doesn't cost that much more so I am definatly interested in it.

So the extra thermal compound is something I should buy now even if I am not going to over clock? Also is it one tube for one PC or can it be used on multiple PCs? I am going to buy two of everything because I am also building my dad a PC.

SATA 6.0 USB 3.0 as you mentioned.

Also, it's not Micro ATX, so has more slots, more space and better heat flow, and is easier to work with.

In general I like to avoid micro atx boards when using full or mid towers, simply to avoid the hassle.

Um, you don't really need better thermal compound. It's really just a few C difference, which isn't big if you don't plan on OC. But, that tube should be enough for several PC's. Remember, paste is supposed to be a thin layer that fills in the air gaps btwn HSF and CPU, not serve as a thick barrier.

I will probably keep mine for longer then the warranty but then I am currently using a AMD 64 3500+ 2.1 Ghz, 1 GB of RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6800 w/256mb of RAM, and a 80GB hard drive. :)

The 1Tb drive uses 250gb platters, not a 500gb platter like the 500gb 7200.12 or Spinpoint F3. If you want a 1tb drive go with the Spinpoint F3 which is the same price, but much better performance.

Cache size has no correlation to a HD's performance.
