Hey seeing now laptops are approaching desktop performance and im in the market for new gaming pc cant decide what to get. I even aee they have custom laptops that use pc components which im interested in. Portability is nice but if i invest so much money i dont want it to break down after a year or 2. Is it safe to say desktops are much more reliable?

Unless you really need to move the system around, you want a desktop for gaming.
Cheaper for the same price, more reliable (less heat issues, less stress on components from not being moved), up-gradable. If you have a high enough budget you can split the cost into a gaming desktop and a laptop. The GTX 1050 systems can be found for $700 or so, so if you have a 1,500 + budget you...
Desktop is UPGRADEABLE where laptops are not, you can swap disc and add ram mostly.
also laptops tend to have much higher temp.
if you want HEAVY gaming, all ultra settings and high FPS then go desktop. If you want nice but not perfect then laptop is good replacement.

Or one great one and a cheaper laptop for travel, portable use. Or a tablet for portable use and desktop for gaming.
