New Gaming "Rig" help suggestions?

Hey guys Me and my brother are going through a bit of turmoil lol..

He lives pretty far away and one way we hang out is we game together. So the situation is his asus laptiop is starting to take a dive and crash at every turn.

So he decided to build a desktop. He does not have much of a budget so we are thinking of going with an AMD build.

Basically we are looking for suggestions on building a Gaming computer seriously only used for games lol with an AMD board and CPU.

any recomendations out there. i have been googling and it seems every site gives a different answer i almost feel like they are all just paid advertising.

Anyone out there have any suggestions on an AMD board and CPU that is a good gaming combo? something inexpensive that can maybe have a better more expensive cpu upgraded later?

The biggest problem i have is deciding on a socket really? i am well versed in intel but totally foreign to amd.

Thanks for the Answer Luco. Good news is we have a copy of windows! That Z97 chipset should allow for some upgrades as well.

I know it's not AMD. That was quite deliberate

AMD has two sockets - FM2, and AM3+

Neither of these sockets can keep up with intel's lga1150 socket, and the G3258 (a cheap $70 cpu) beats any CPU on the FM2 line when overclocked.

The FX-6300 and 8320 / 8350 (AM3+) are great for gaming at the moment but they are also top of their socket, whereas the z97 mobo gives you huge room for upgradability when your budget can afford it

if you want to upgrade to an i5, it also means a better gpu, and 8gb ram, as stated above. our builds are very similar, and will play modern games at very decent settings. and yes, pcpartpicker is awesome.
