Higher resolutions, sli scaling can be worth it.

I would not recommend SLi. its a nightmare to optimize it.
Here are my recommendation. Its using the current optimized set up. You can go beyond these set up, but the performance will not go as much the the money burned. For example, Samsung 970 pro is better than 970 evo, but its difference on games and other usage are miniscule. Ram normally efficient with 2400 CL15, but if its only $10 differ to get 3000 CL16, I would recommend go for it.
Here are my recommendation, if you do not like the case, you can change with anything you want. I mainly just go for functionality.

I7-9700K is coming but its only has 8 core 8 threads. I personally prefer 6 core 12 threads (i7-8700K) since I myself already experience the huge difference between i5-2320 (4core4threads) against i7-3770K (4core8threads) which gave the RX 480 4Gb a boost from 35-50 fps to 60-100 fps in battlefield 1. that just how big the difference of dual threads per core. My own unproven opinion of i7-9700K is a product of intel's greed to leech more money from us. They should go 8 core 16 threads, but they will create new i9 for it. Its just my opinion though.

Good luck

The 9700k will have higher clock speeds, will overclock better, has soldered ihs, has 8 physical cores.

No doubt in saying that it will be the new gaming cpu king. Call the mods if you have a different opinion or think I am trolling. I am sure they will also support my post.

While sli is poor for 1080p/2440p, look at 4k benchmarks for the latest AAA games. According to the games, scaling is anywhere from - 5%to +60%. So op can look at those benchmarks for the games he want to play and can decide for himself.

Are AMD's CPUs, which have unlocked multipliers, on a 'do not purchase' list as they must be 'meant for overclocking'? :)

It should be noted, however, that, rather unsurprisingly, they also work at their marginally higher than non-K variants' advertised clock speeds even if not overclocked...; just because a CPU has 100-200 MHz OC headroom available does not mandate a customer to up the core voltage, take the +20C temp heat increase, etc., for hte net gain of 3 fps in gaming...does it?

A Z370 board also could run all 6 cores at 4.7 GHz with MCE enabled....hence the current results of the 8700K offering 99+% of the 8086K's performance...even when NOT OC'd.

Thanks everyone, I have heard the RTX 2080 isn't worth it right now because it doesn't have all the features it was said to have currently. Thoughts?

I guess its worth it for future proofing.

What I thought, also just re-did my desk setup and picked up 2 LG 27inch 4K monitors (https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27UK600-W-4k-uhd-led-monitor) .

I can def tell my GTX 970 seems to be straining on handling the 4k dual resolution (not horrible). Also the monitor only support Displayport 1.2 and not 1.4, should that be a concern not being able to get the full use with DP1.2?

4k, if you can afford it, the 2080ti is simply the best option, right now. The RTX 2080 is kinda a waste of space. Costs more than a 1080ti, with similar performance, and the extra features of the RTX aren't usable yet.

Why would you get an 8086K when the 9000 series are literally a few weeks away from dropping? :??:

2 of those would eat up their budget. A single 2080ti is capable of 60hz 4k gaming though.

I would definitely wait til 9th gen comes out, if you can. If not, something like this.

Still don't need SLI, to run two of them, unless of course you plan or gaming on both, at the same time. Typically game on one and do other things on the other. Very little resources are used to run 2d, on a second screen, and I believe a different part of the GPU handles 2d anyway.

After reading reviews I am thinking going with 8700K and 1080 TIs (would be a big jump from my 4 year old PC still), from what I hear the 2080 and 9700k aren't that great in performance over the previous generation, and hoping when they are released prices will drop on the last gens.

Thoughts? Also might wait onto black Friday/cyber Monday and see if I can get good deals on the whole system.

Yea I was looking at the MSI MEG Godlike, and you think 8086K. Hopefully by black Friday/Cyber more detailed reviews will be out.
