New gaming system complete! Opinions :)

Hey guys, this is the build i've come up with. Basically wanting some advice on any changes that can be made. I have gone about $150AU over my limit and wanting to cut that down. Atm this all comes to $1880AU, that being $1527US. I want to chop it down to around $1400US. Anything I can cut down on without losing too much performance? Will be running on a 1900 x 1080 resolution monitor. Thanks a lot guys!

All good choices but stick with the Corsair PSU as long as you can afford it.

A WD Caviar Black 640GB is the preferred HD.

Go for the 4890 if the gtx 275 is $80 more because they trade blows in most games, some favor the 4890 and some favor the 275

You don't need a GPU heatsink, stock will be fine. The only reason I would remove the stock cooler is if it failed or if I wanted to use water cooling.

Maybe the 690 instead of the HAF? It's a nice case but not as nice as the HAF. Maybe you could settle for the HAF 922, which is a bit less than the full tower model.

I'll admit ignorance for prices in AU$, but stateside the Xigmatek S-1283 is quite a bit cheaper than the coolermaster V8 and performs on a very similar level. Perhaps the same is true down under?

If you can find it for less I didn't see an LGA 1333 Xigmatek on any of the sites, except for the equally expensive "Thors Hammer"

Thanks guys, swapped the PSU for the 650 equivalent corsair, and the heatsink over for the Xigmatek. Also removed the GPU cooler which won't be added until later down the track when I overclock. This takes it down to around $1760. Sounding better If anyone has anything else to add that would be great. Besides this, someone else has mention this build below, what do you guys think with that? Honestly I think what I already have is better value for only $100 extra, but I do like the dual 275GTX. Opinions? 😛

In my opinion you can wait for the next generation graphics cards to come out, and with that will come the i5 platform, the middle to top end i5 will be very similar to the i7 920 and will be cheaper. If you want to order now then you have a solid build which will last awhile, the good thing about the AM3 socket is that it last a while. Also if you can - go with DDR2 and save some money, perform differences are very slim and not worth the extra cash. In a lot of reviews the 4890 was even beating 280, at your resolution you'll see much better results with the 4890s. Also I say go with the XFX brand for ATI cards, they have the best customer support. Oh and don't pay for overclocked cards, you can overclock them yourself. If you want better cooling for your GPUs (because in your first post you wanted after market gpu coolers) you can mod the side of your case to put in 1 or 2 120mm fans to blow cool air directly on the GPU. As for the heatsink, the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (TRUE) is currently the best around, they have the regular version, black, and copper, I know the black cools better then the regular version and I don't know much about the copper. It's about 70 USD at xoxide. The HAF 932 is currently the best air cooling case, so you can't go wrong with that. The Antec 300 is OK, but compared to the HAF (in terms features and cooling) it's pretty much crap.

Thanks for the reply mate, but Iw ill be purchasing within the next month or so, can't really wait for the i5. And as for GFX card, I will be getting a DX11 compatible card to work in crossfire with my 4890 when they are released

Oh sorry I missed that build.... That Seasonic may well be capable of sustaining the needed wattage for those two 4890s, but it would be a very bad idea. It would run very hot and be inefficient.

No, you need a good 750W for that build.

But wait, whats this? The 770 chipset does not support crossfire. He can't put two 4890s on that board.

So I'll just grab the corsair 750w instead of going cheap ass and getting the $650. Will the TX750 hinder the performance of the dual 4890s at all? If so, I would think it would be worth it to spend the extra to grab a 8-900w supply? Thanks a lot

Glad to hear, thank you That being said, when you say fine? Does that include low temperatures with mild overclocking to the GPU and slight push to the i7 to 3.0?

I would think you are still under 500W with all that, and the amperage wouldn't be an issue. The Corsair is rated for 750W continuous as I recall, so you are real safe.
