Hello everyone,

im trying to build a new gaming pc. my old one is just mehh, lets say i need a new one.
i used to buy cheap stuff, but that didnt really pay off in the long run, so this time ive gathered around 2000€ and want to get the best out of it.
i used the search option and im really looking forward to buy the system someone already mentioned.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i GTX 104.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card
Case: NZXT Noctis 450 ATX Mid Tower Case ($136.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

The only problem i have is that the cpu cant be purchased anywhere here in germany. i did some research and found out that intel has some delivery issues in europe.

so can i replace the i7 6700 with a 4790K or is that a major performance loss?
if not, which mainboard would you guys recommend? Asus z97- A / Msi Z97 Gaming 5 ?

when i change the cpu, i need DDR3 instead of DDR4. is that also a major performance loss or not really noticable?`which ddr3 should i go for in that case?

regards

The 4790k is a great chip, and as long as you get Z97 board with it it's probably smarter for you than waiting for skylake and paying the money for a brand new chip. The reason z97 is important is because those boards will be able to use Broadwell chips when they eventually come out, since intels release schedule got messed up. Therefore, if you ever feel like you need a CPU upgrade, you can upgrade your 4790k to a 6700k series chip when they're eventually released. It won't be as cutting edge as skylake, but it will still be an upgrade.

DDR4 and DDR3 are extremely negligible in terms of their differences. DDR4 allows you to go to ludicrous amounts of ram (128gb), but no current processes will even use that. It's technically more future proof, but DDR3 is fine.

RAM doesn't matter in terms of price, just make sure it's a brand with good reviews and one that you trust. Other than that, just buy the cheapest ram in the GB value that you desire. Clock speed on ram also doesn't matter very much, 1333 vs 2400 will perform practically the same because as clock speed increases, so does latency. It all evens out.

You could check the Overclockers.uk website if they can deliver to your place. If they don't then that won't be a big problem.
1) The devil canyon & skylake performs nearly same, where the 4790k costs lower than 6700k.
2) Switch to hero VII if you like one. Both MSI & Asus would be a good choice.
3) DDR3 over DDR4: In real world? not that much. The DDR4 draw less power than DDR3, performance: 2-3% than DDR3 Memory. So, DDR3 should be fine. Get any of them which suits your budget.

Cooler: AIO Liquid cooler do have chances of risk. You need to install it very well. Don't get afraid, actually people say's a lot out there but a proper install will eliminate that risk. Of course, leakage can make other component's in worse situation or even can make permanent damage. Getting a good air cooler with Zero risk will be a saefest option. They cannot perform exactly like AIO but it will do your job pretty well. You can use Push-pull method for better performance. Any of them needs proper maintenance.

Anyways,You have made a nice build. Though a single 980Ti needs 650w. You could save up some cash and get a 750W. The MSI Gaming 980Ti runs a bit hotter than others (Not a major issue) but still haven't expect that from twin frozer V. The Lightning edition is a good option (If your budget suits).

wow, that explained a lot. ill go with the Asus ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO.
ive never used water cooling, will the Corsair H110i or H100* fit on the cpu? if so, should i take h100 or 110?

edit*: havent seen your recent reply. im used to air cooling and i dont really mind the noise. can you recommend me a good air cooler for the 4790 with oc options?

one more thing, any advice which PSU i should buy? any 850W GOLD is fine?
u really helped me out, cant really wait for the skylake, because no gaming for 3-4weeks is not an option 😀
