I just purchased a new power back up generator that has an Ethernet connection for reporting various states of operation to my smartphone over the Internet. I live in the country and DSL/Cable Modem to Internet does not exist here so all I have is a hot spot. How do I get from the generator to the hot spot?

What App are you using? The Ethernet app is a proprietary Kohler product

You need to provide more detail.

What is this 'hot spot'? Is it just phone reception? eg 4G? I used to have AT&T DSL which failed more than it worked so I installed an AT&T hotspot in my office and wireless adapters on all of my computers that didn't have wireless and this works very well. Of course all of my laptops that have wireless work fine too.

How far is the generator from the hot spot? What are you going to connect the generator ethernet port to? The generator's ethernet cable was routed into my house along with its communications cables and is 30' from the hotspot. What I am going to hook the generator's ethernet cable to IS the question and problem.

@Telecmengr - first, don't quote twice the precvious message - when you click on "Reply to someone", write your reply immediately here, instead of first "Reply to...", then "Submit". You don't even have to reply every time.

Now, back to your question. From what I do understand, you have some "black box" from AT&T with **somehow** provides Wireless internet. The easiest way to connect your generator (and other wired devices, like desktops or DVRs) would be to get a wireless router with bridge functionality. Even cheapest Asus RTN12 can do that.
