Hi

I'm currently looking at the R9 290X or the GTX 970...

But i can't figure out which to buy...
Both are priced around 460US$

My rig has the following specs

AMD FX 8350
ASUS Sabertooth FX990 R2
8GB RAM
256GB SSD
2 x 750GB HDD's
GTX 750 Ti
Corsair RM850

While i think about Nvidia i don't know if i should get the 970 or the 980??
Or if i should get one 970 now and then SLI it with another 970 at another time?

have to get 970... cannot believe the price. Did not expect that from the green team... I have always been on AMD for graphics but even i am upgrading from a Radeon HD 7970 to GTX 970.. then SLI later.

Thats just my thoughts and others may give you a bit more insight though.

The 290x is a better card from the point of performance, but consumes more power, generates more heat and is generally more expensive. The 970 is cheap, energy efficient and has a lot of cool features including new ones, although the 970/980 may not be the upgrade some people were looking for. No matter what card you choose, there's going to be code that's better optimized with special features for the other company with certain games.

As said right now i have an GTX 750Ti, and i love how easy it is and how offen Nvidia releases driver updates compared to AMD... :)

And as i can see in reviews the GTX 970 is better at some points? and then when it loses to 290X it's with like 5-10 FPS... :/

Okay, the AMD GFX is Now down to around 345$... But as stated i play alot of different games....
As i see in Mining the AMD is best but while gaming compared to the 970?

remember that this is with launch drivers, that will improve as they mature, the amd drivers are already mature.

With regards to mining, there's no money in it any more if you investigate thoroughly .
