New GPU Advise please

Hi all,
My GPU is on its last legs and I'm trying to decide my best option to replace it.

My rig is 4years old so I'm trying to decide how much i may end up spending to allow it to function.
I'm using an i7 4770, 3.4Hz quad core on an asus sabertooth Z87, 16gb ddr3 and a corsair tx650m psu.

What is going to be the best GPU I can get away with currently? Could I use a 1070 or 1080?
Or how much need i change to make it viable again?

A GTX 1060 would do the job for 1080p gaming but obviously the GTX 1070 will be more future proof and last longer before you need to upgrade again. The GTX 1080 is probably overkill with your system.

If I wanted to go for a GTX1080, would I just need a new board and processor or would I need to replace the PSU too?

Your system is able to handle a GTX 1080 so you wont need to replace anything but the GPU.
