Alrighty!!

I just installed my new GPU and all its driver software and monitoring software. When looking at the GPU's temps I was shocked to see it a 68 degrees Celsius! At idle!

Please tell me this is normal.

GPU MSI R9 390 8GB
CPU Intel Core i7 4790K 4ghz
16 GB RAM
PSU Antec 900watt

Thanks!

Unfortunately that's not normal. I would check to make sure that you are really at idle since 68C is about right for temp under load. Also max operating temp is around 100C, so go ahead and test it with a benchmarking tool like Heaven and watch the temperature. If it doesn't cross 75C then you are fine.

Alright. So I did a couple of benchmark tests and it went way over 75C! I did a little searching on fan control for my GPU and found a program called MSI Afterburner. I can now control the fans when playing games which helps keep the temperature down even when doing bench marking tests. It stays around 45C when playing Assassin's Creed Rouge and around 67C but can jump a bit higher when playing Unity. I guess these are okay temperatures.
