I just ordered the Nvidia GtS 450 and I discovered that it will not fit inside of my case. I have an inspiron 530 case. Is it possible that I could for the time being until I got a new case still connect the graphics card without fully inserting it into the case? Can I possibly connect the graphics card on the outside of the case and install some sort of metal container to protect it.

The motherboard inside that inspiron will not fit in a new case. Dell uses BTX motherboards and they will not fit in most cases. You can look into getting a powered PCIE riser.

What will the powered pcie riser do? Will it raise the card out of the case?

Okay I get now that it has to be connected to the motherboard. The Nvidia Geforce 450 will most definitely not fit inside of the case. If it doesnt, can I use a Pcie riser to still connect the graphics card to the motherboard and my monitor, without the graphics card in my case?

Does anyone ever use there pc without their gpu fully in it? Can I just add on a new metal side tab to hold the graphics card. Should I get a new case and motherboard?
