New GPU extremely hot even after applying new thermal paste.

Hi,

My GPU has been sounding absurdly loud and getting 80c + in Furmark, other benchmarks and even general gaming. I thought I could resolve the problem by cleaning and applying new thermal paste. Unfortunately, this didn't do anything. The temps are still going as high as 90c and it sounds like a jet engine while gaming. I never overclocked this card and it is almost brand new. (I bought it off of newegg a few months ago). What can I do about this? I have a mid tower and everything is clean. My cable management is also quite good. I can't find a reason for the card getting this hot.

GPU Specs:
PowerColor PCS+ Radeon R9 380X DirectX 12 AXR9 380X 4GBD5-PPDHE 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support ATX Myst. Edition Video Card

Solution
Should be like 60

Update bios of your motherboard

Uninstall any running tools like afterburner and similar
Uninstall all gpu drivers with ddu uninstaller
Reinstall latest AMD drivers after it

Check with Furmark again

well what is 80+ like 81, or 89?

Can see there they get 71 in furmarks and that's in a temperture controlled room and all that jazz. What kind of intake/exhaust fans do you have?

I only have the two 120mm intake and exhaust fans that came with my Corsair Carbide Series 200R case. I imagined that this would be enough for a basic gaming pc.

My FX 8350 only gets up to about 52c at 100% usage with a hyper 212 evo so that seems okay. The GPU is getting as high as 90c in furmark which is way above the stats that you mentioned. Seems unreasonably hot and the loudness is unbearable.

But the 90's didn't come till after you messed with the thermal paste, so those reading don't count anywhere because you caused that. If it was in the 80's before thermal paste solidly and then 90's after you took it apart and put the paste on, you did it wrong and those results can't be used.

I flashed the BIOS on my m5a99fx pro r2.0 motherboard twice at this point.. It is at the latest version I could find on ASUS' website.

I also did a clean install of Windows 10, removing everything on the PC before installing the full R9 300 series driver from AMD's website. I didn't use minimal setup or auto detect since those can be prone to cause problems.

The card still seems absurdly hot. I might try opening it up again and applying more thermal paste than I did before.

If you think you need more, you probably need less and put too much thermal paste already. Usually thermal paste, too much is put on about 90% of the time. No one ever puts too little. Google how to apply it. You'll see, like a grain of rice is all you need.

I reapplied thermal paste, this time putting a bit more and spreading it across the surface of the gpu and the card is running about 10-13 degrees cooler than before. It's still quite hot at about 80c in furmark, (9 degrees hotter than the average R9 380x stats) but at least it's stable now. Maybe it's just my card model that runs hotter than others.
