Hi guys,

I replaced my GTX 970 with a 1060 and I'm having problems with the graphics on Valorant

So the graphics in the game isnt bad, but I noticed the following issues:

  1. tearing is more obvious now
  2. when I multi task while playing, such as when I minimize the game for 1 second to check google chrome, the game goes idle for a bit (its hard to describe but I think its on eco mode or something whenever i minimize the game because i can hear the fans go quiet; so i think the problem is that this 1060 has an eco mode to use low energy)
i think those problems come up because the card only has 1 fan, in contrast the 970 had 3 freakin ones; anf this problem is made worse when eco mode kicks in in-between multi-tasking

So to get over those issues I want to turn "overclock" my card, to get the most out of its power

I'm just wondering if thats worth doing, because the model of my 1060 card is the "superclocked" version of EVGA 1060; so it should be factory overlocked right off the box right? so im thinking overclocking wont have any benefits to it? or am i wrong?

tldr; is it worth overclock an already factory overcloked card? should i look into other methods instead, such as forcing fans to 100 % percent when gaming (if thats even possible)

any advice is appreciated, please give your thoughts, but pls be nice. i know a 1060 is old, but its all i can afford. and even a 1060 is expensive to me!

thank you toms hardware community!

I don't think it got anything to do with an eco mode of the card and more with game settings. Some games reduce FPS when you tab out to preserve power and system resources, that's normal and got little to do with the card. Overclocking your card shouldn't do anything against that, either, since even overclocked cards don't run at maximum all the time. It's a clock rate curve, not a flat line.

What is the rest of your system? CPU, MB, PSU, drives, and i this case, the monitor model and features. The way you put it - "tearing is more obvious now" - suggests there were tearing issues before, just not as severe. This could be a monitor problem I think, so it would be good to know what you got. What FPS do you have, and what refresh rate...
