New GPU (gtx 1080), now games crashing

Just upgraded my GTX 660TI for a GTX1080 (gigabyte wf)

System worked with no issues before upgrade. New card showed no signs of issues until I started to test games. Most often they crash to desktop right away when about to start gameplay. (been through the menu, cutscenes and loading screens). A few times i have been able to play, but seems very fragile. Game crashed from alt+tab and also from being blown up in GTA 5.

Always crash to desktop, usually no error messages from game. Except PUBG, which wont even start. crashes right away with error. also get an unreal engine error from fortnite when it crashes during loading. Nothing if it crashes as gameplay starts, which is most common.

Nvidia experience and latest driver installed. Think i also have latest bios/driver for motherboard, but its from 2015...

Faulty card? software? to weak processor/motherboard to keep up with GPU?

Set-up:

Asus P8B75-M
Core I5-3470
Ballistix sport 20GB DDR3
Kingston SSD
WD HDD
Gigabyte 1080 windforce x3 OC 8gb
Corsair TX750 PSU

Solution
i would boot to a windows 10 usb with only the boot drive hooked up, and blast all the partitions on the boot drive, then reinstall clean. THEN test everything before going crazy installing drivers. Win10 knows all about your stuff and what goes with it. if the graphics are still poor, then get the latest nvid drivers, etc...

uh-- i would think so. 6+2 pins..

It is weird.. the previous owner of the card said it was working fine for him... he also offered to take it back so no shady business there.. just no idea what to try ..

That's BOTH 8 pin power connections?

There is only one 8 pin on this card i believe?

(Dont have it in front of me now)

hmm at first i didnt use it. I have downloaded and installed it now, but not made any changes in the software. problems persist both with and without install.

i did do a total driver uninstall using some driver delete software i found in another thread. However did not manage to complete the steps that ensures windows does not automatically install new drivers. (guide was not for win 10).
So windows auto installed some new drivers, but not the most recent nvidia. Now it works "playable" but still quite often crash and sometime graphics bug. For instance in Fortnite the avatar gets surrounded buy some highly pixelated color that sometimes goes totally black in the "waiting for bus" session.. but as the bus loads and gameplay starts its fine again.

PUBG crashes on loading everytime, but have not played that for 6 months so could be game. uninstalled.. will reinstall.
