New GPU installed and monitor won't get a signal

Recently got an rx 480 after my 7870 died. The monitor says no signal or will just sleep when I boot the computer. The fans and led lights turn on, and the pc boots fine from what I can tell, the monitor will also work with the integrated graphics port.

I have the bios set to auto for a list graphical input, and I'm scared to set it to peg only since it might still not work and I won't have a means to use it without reseting bios. This is an older computer which worked fine until my old gpu died and I know it's not psu related.

Bios are also updated.

Only other problems I can think of are that maybe the dvi cable is broken and I'm trying to get a replacement.

Until then anything else I should try?

Edit: also, the computer was entering startup repair until I installed the drivers from the cs included with the card, so I would imagine the system and card are interacting with one another just fine.

Solution
the PCIE slot could be dead, you definitely should make sure you have a Dual-Link DVI-D cable.
The monitor saying no input "analog" would mean it's not on the DVI input, and only on the Analog (VGA) input. (or that it doesn't see any analog input and is looking for it.)
if you set it to PEG only and it still doesn't work, you can reset the Bios back to default by removing the CMOS Battery (circular silver thing, size of a quarter) for a minute or so and then putting in back in. Bios will go back to it's orignal default settings from the factory (like graphics input auto).

Cables can break, it's possible it was your cable and not your 7870.

The RX 480 uses a different type of DVI connection compared to your 787, and your monitor may have a different one as well.

If your monitor only does analog DVI signals, that'd be why it doesn't work.

Anyway, I'll be sure to try that when I get home. I might need to buy an adapter. My monitor does treat vga and dvi differently though, and doesn't provide options for say, auto adjust when using dvi.

I know my card burned out because there was insane artifacting and graphical tearing until the card stopped working and eventually the computer recognized it as a vga to dvi adapter. And just ran the integrated graphics through the card eventually

was the RX 480 working for a period of time? your first post kinda makes it sound like it was.

Make sure you have a Dual-Link DVI-D cable, as that's what the GPU needs.

How do you know what the BIOS looks like with the GPU plugged in?

You're plugging the cables into the GPU and not the motherboard right?

The 480 didn't necessarily work, but fans, leds, and so on go on, but the computer doesn't boot into startup repair. I'm using a dvid single link cable currently, is dual link necessary?

Alright real quick update: I currently have bios set to "IGP" so i can use the computer because auto doesn't work. The card itself is in, but when if i go to the device manager on windows the only card recognized is the integrated graphics. Is this because i have the card de-selected or might it be because the card is dead?

I haven't selected the card itself yet because i need to get some work done first. Just posting this to see if this is a clear sign of dead card before doing so.

After selecting the gpu as the sole video output, my monitor still says no signal. But here's the thing, it says "no signal analog" does this mean it might be in the wrong mode or something? I also checked the dvi port on the monitor and it definitely can have a digital input because the port on the back is a dvi d dual link port.

So back at square one: cable dead, card dead, monitor messed up.

The hurricane is hitting me later today but after I'm going to try to borrow a cable from a friend and test my card in his rig. Gonna have a long down time until then, anything else worth trying?

Is it possible the pcie slot could be dead? If the card is running but not detected by the device manager when I run off of integrated graphics. Is this because something is wrong with the slot or because I don't have it selected by the bios when I check?

So that could mean its not receiving a dvi signal period to where it wouldn't recognize that it's recieinlving one.

Alright ill stop spamming your notifications until I get that cable for now. Thanks for the help

Finally got around to getting over to my buddy's house and testing it. The card worked fine on his computer even with my cable. He let me borrow an old zotac gt430 which doesn't need a connection from the PSU.

So my PCIE slot must've died while i waited for the new card. New build time i guess.
