New gpu - psu cables question

Just bought a gtx 1060 to replace my aging 960.

The current psu cable set-up is 2x 6pin cables into a single 8pin cable (that connects to the card). My new card requires a 6-pin cable connection. Can i run the new card with just 1 of the 6-pin cables, ignoring the other 1? Or do i need to find a 2x 6pin to 6 pin adapter? Appreciation to anybody who can help on this question.

Just use one of the 6-pin cables. No adapter necessary. Tuck the other cable out of the way.

One 6-pin cable is all you need. There is no such cable as 2x6 to 6 pin btw.
