i was considering this card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Mobile GPU, but I'm honestly having trouble finding it to buy. If anyone can help there, or recommend a better card for the same amount of $ or less, that would be much appreciated.

I doubt you will be able to buy any discrete graphics for a laptop anywhere but ebay, and even then it will be hard to find.

I'm not sure what you mean by discrete graphics. as in mobile? why would ebay be the only place?

As in a chip specifically for graphics, and ebay would be the most likely place because discrete graphics for laptops usually aren't for retail. You have to buy a laptop with it already installed.
However, some decide to take apart their laptops and sell the pieces on ebay, that is why ebay is your best chance IMO.
