Hi,
Specs:
Silver Power SP-SS500 500W PSU
ATX 12V V2.2, 80 Plus, Standard, 1x 6pin+1x 6+2pin
PCIe
-
AMD FX-6100 6-Core Processor
Socket- AM3+, 3.3Ghz, 95W
-
ASUS M5A78L-M LX V2, Socket-AM3+
mATX, AMD780L+SB710, DDR3, 1xPCIe(2.0)x16,
Hybrid CFX, GbLAN, VGA
-
Kingston ValueR. DDR3 1333MHz 8GB, CL9
Kit w/2x ValueRAM 4GB DDR3
-
XFX Radeon HD 7850 2GB GDDR5
PCI-Express 3.0
Geforce GTX 960 2GB, 120W , 8 pin, 2048MB GDDR5 (128 bit)
Long story short:
A very old computer I'm trying to fix. My old GPU Radeon 7850 failed after computer shutdown by itself. It showed green lines on screen. I figured it was the GPU since the internal graphics through VGA was working.
I have bought a new GPU (second hand, should be OK), a Geforce 960. I started out by noticing my PSU didn't have 6+2 pin, it had 2x4 and 1x6 pin. I bought a 6 to 8 pin converter for the new GPU.
Next steps I'm thinking of:
I am a bit unsure about the cards PCI-slot placement. When I put it there it's fine. It has to move jut a tiny tiny bit though for me to be able to use the "screws" in the chassi.
My first question is - will I be able to start the computer with internal graphics if I disable it and the GPU still doesn't work? I am afraid I will disable it, followed by GPU not working and I can't get a screen at all to keep trying stuff.
Any thoughts are welcome!
Thanks,
Anton

- Computer able to start with internal graphics only, I set bios to start with internal graphics first
- Uninstalled AMD drivers, rebooted
- Installed Geforce drivers for 960
- Cleaned the computer slots and put new GPU in
- Screen going into power save mode when I connect through the HDMI (fans are spinning and the card is lightening up at boot)
- Set bios to boot GFX0-etc, still not working
Next steps I'm thinking of:
- Disable internal graphics
- Resetting BIOS
