So just got delivered my new GPU, AMD Radeon R9 270x, got it second hand so that is something. I am not new with PC's, I knew how to set it up, plug it into the motherboard, connect to PSU, bla bla and got it working, LED's working, fans spinning, all good. I look up, boom, two red lines going all the way across my screen vertically. Then I wait for it, maybe just for the startup, nope, as it gets loaded into Windows, those 2 vertical lines have turned into about 7-8 red horizontal lines.

I have a double sided VGA cable, and since the card does not support VGA, I've an adapter. I've obviously tried installing drivers and what not, did not help. Changed resolution didn't help.

Now the thing, my cable is slightly bugged i think, whenever I twist it a bit the whole screen tints blue slightly. Now with these red lines, whenever I tilt the cable, the screen gets REALLY blue, however the red lines dissapear. Now however, I've tested another VGA cable that does not have this tinting, and I am just stuck with the red lines.

Any suggestions? :)

Sounds like the card is defective. Did you test the card out before you bought it? If you bought it used from a store you might be able to exchange it. If you bought it from a friend or buddy... you might be able to ask for your money back. If it's from Craigslist... nothing you can do.

To try to resolve the issue:
- You could try an entirely different cable
- Insert the card into a different computer to see if the problem persists. If it's the same problem.... then yes a bad card.

I'm assuming the lines appeared during POST... so that means it's probably not even the driver since Windows hadn't even loaded up yet... right?

two options

First: try different connection, dvid/hdmi/displayport or downclock the gpu(but it beats the purpose of the gpu in that case)

Second: the card is dead, if you can get your money back, what you are seing is called artifacts, nothing you can do if they are there and if you tried first option

Unfortunately I don't have another computer that I could test it on nearby 🙁

And yes, even at the very very start of the startup, the lines are there.

I thought so... about the artifacts at startup... the only thing you can possibly do is try using a different DVI/video cable.. or HDMI cable... of if your motherboard as another pci express slot... see what happens if you used that one... sometimes stuff like that clears up the problem...
