I have a pc which is getting old, and I was considering buying a new graphics card for it, and later maybe build a completely new pc. Would it be possible or wise to get a new graphics card into my current pc and later putting it into a new one? Current CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 455, GPU: AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5570, 8 GB RAM and Windows 10 Pro.

Solution
buying only gpu would be a very bad option.

you can try getting ryzen 2600 for 120$ or 1200 for 60$
some motherboard for 50$

and used gpu maybe gtx 760 or r9 280x for 50$
of r9 290(x) for 80-90$ or so

it would be 160$ for the cheapest build but my recommended is
ryzen 2600 and r9 290x and some motherboard for 50 for total of 250$ whitch is 225 eur
and keep in mind that r9 290x is not that much behind gtx 1060 and WAY better than 1050ti

and with this rig you can 100% play any game atleast medium at 1080p

Your options are going to be limited with the old tech. Many modern GPUs require a UEFI based motherboard.

Also, that old CPU is going to severely limit the performance of a modern GPU.

What is the exact model number of your motherboard? Also, what is your GPU budget?

You should consider a full-blown system update.

Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 and I was hoping to stay in the range of one to two hundred euros.
Also thanks for the quick reply!

On the motherboard, the info is located near one of the corners (upper left). See here:

In all honesty I don’t think that it’s smart to upgrade your graphics card
First Off AMD athlon isn’t so powerful so getting a gpu now today would be bottleneck as your cpu wouldn’t be able to utilize all the frames that the gpu would be giving I suggest that you get a new PC and hopefully you are able to sell that rig
