New graphics card for older PC

Hello i have an oldish PC sitting around doing nothing because the graphics card went on it, and have now only just decided to fix it up again. Im not quite sure what to get though, because i'm relatively new to this and don't want to get an overpriced one for the hardware it has. Anyone have any advice?

CPU: 2.40 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
Board: NEC COMPUTERS INTERNATIONAL GA-K8N Ultra-SLI
2048 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory
(DID Have a geforce 9500gt)

Looking for something quite cheap.

Hi, before anything i would highly advise you to also increase the memory for at least 2 more GB, that being said here are some nice options for the gpu:

Any low-mid gfx card from nvidia or amd will give you a nice boost in gameplay. Since memory is also cheap I would add another 2GB (for a total of 4GB if 32bit OS).

Should have really mentioned its DDR RAM and Windows XP SP3

That mobo use DDR and they are expensive.

I wouldn't bother with it and sell it for spare part.

Just get a very cheap video card as the machine is to old and slow to justify even getting a soild entry level gaming card like an AMD Radeon HD 7770 or GTX 650. I recommend this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131339 as the PC you are talking about is only any good for web browsing and light duty PC work.

I agree with others suggesting HD 5450. It's not worth putting more money into it than that.

Depending on who you are selling it to (that's the important bit), get the cheapest and maximise your profit.

Okay thanks people, ive got a general idea now. The person who is buying it off of me i know in person and is only giving me peanuts for it, but he is a light gamer and these ideas are for him.

Oh, ok. Then you may probably want to get a 2nd hand 4670/5670 or similar.
