New graphics card yet worse FPS?

I recently received an Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti for christmas as an upgrade for my old GT 620 yet instead of seeing better Framerate on Minecraft I am seeing worse?
My GT 620 saw ~50 FPS on medium settings but on the same settings my GTX 750Ti sees ~40 when idle and ~20 when flying about.

My system specs are:
AMD A4-5000 APU
GTX 750Ti
6GB Ram
500W PSU

Is it possible my CPU is the bottle neck?
I have about £220 to spend on a new motherboard/Processor or any other component I should buy.

First of all, make sure you are actually using the GTX750Ti instead of your IGP (graphics within your APU). BIOS settings have to be set to use PCI-E graphics, monitor cable has to be plugged in into GTX750Ti and latest drivers for it installed.

I am definitely using the GTX 750Ti. The cable is plugged into it and it shows up under bios and I have triple checked drivers and made sure I don't have the old ones.

Your CPU is definitely not the best solution, but is not a bottleneck here (it if was capable of driving the game faster with older card, that means it should give *at least* that much FPS with a new one, even if it was indeed a bottleneck).

I would check for CPU temperatures, though. Use Open HW Monitor and report the max temp during gaming.

Also, which 500W PSU are you using exactly?

EDIT: I can see you are using 6GB of RAM. As a note, mixing RAMs is never a good idea. If you had no issues before, that doesn't mean they can't kick in at some point. Testing with a single 4GB stick could be a good idea as well.

I am using a Corsair CX500 ATX power supply.

When idle the processor reaches max 36°C and when gaming it reaches 43°C. The graphics card also reached 43°C.

I used 3DMark11 to push the processor and GPU. The CPU reached 95% usage.
I will try removing the 2GB stick to see if that helps.

check your setup in Nvidia Control Panel. if you updated drivers it could have changed your Manage 3D Settings profiles. if your graphics filtering options have been altered it could cause the fps drop. you could also be playing at a larger resolution now if you had turned it down with the older card. make sure Nvidia's settings are set to Maximum Performance for power, Single Display, make sure all the AA, AO, and other settings are at a level your setup can handle.

you have £220 to spend! great! go with a cheap but reliable 990FX motherboard and get yourself an FX 8350 and with any change left over either upgrade your ram or PSU.

So I did a little more digging on the internet. I found a guide called "The easy upgrade Guide" found here: http://www.pcgamer.com/the-easy-pc-upgrade-guide/#page-3

after reading through The CPU and Motherboard section it mentions the CPU utilization. It turns out it is my CPU that is throttling my FPS as the utilization hits 100%

I have been looking around and I have decided to go with an Intel Core I5-4460 Processor with an Asus H81 Gamer MotherBoard as it fits nicely into my budget of £220 at a total cost of £210.58 on Amazon. I am open to suggestions and would love to hear any improvements for the same price.

go for a 120gb ssd and get an FX 8320 instead. DO NOT go with the dual core option, more and more games are listing quad cores as their minimum requirements and some games like dragon age inquisition and far cry 4 wont even launch on dual cores or will have a host of other problems.

when you're gaming a lot of processors, even high end ones, will be sitting @ or near 100%. don't expect that getting a slightly better one is going to drastically change anything. a 750ti is kind of weak by today's game's standards. you still won't be running all effects on high or at high resolutions.

Agreed. The FX-8320 outperforms the FX-6300 by a long way.

People, just for the record, i3 is a dual core, but with hyperthreading, meaning it presents itself as a quad core to all applications. ALL current games will run on i3. However, they won't on Pentium G3258, which is a dual core without hyperthreading.
