New Graphics, Old PC

Hello,

I have an old desktop that needs a new video card. I am trying to match video performance to the rest of the hardware. I don't want my graphics card to be the bottleneck.

Here is my system:
Motherboard: Asus P5N-e SLI
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66 GHz
Ram: 4 GB

It has 2 SLI slots for graphics cards, but I've only used 1 in the past.

I borrowed an Asus HD 6450 Silent (1 GB DDR3) to troubleshoot. Using Windows 8 Pro 64-bit I got these Windows Experience Rating numbers:
Processor: 6.0
RAM: 6.1
Graphics (Desktop): 4.3
Gaming Graphics: 6.1
Primary Hard Disk: 5.5

Is this card good enough for my old system or should I get something that will give me performance closer to my other parts?

i dont know what you are doing with your system but with your current specs that is probably a decent GPU for your needs

What are you trying to do with exactly? Web browsing/office products or gaming?

Office work should be fine with about anything.

If it's gaming you're close to a dead end. The rig I replaced in April was very similar to yours and it just could not keep up with a game like BF3 multiplayer on a 6770 card (at 1080 - lower resolution would be a little better).

I guess I was surprised by the Desktop Graphics rating of 4.3 from Windows in comparison to everything else. I remember my old card rating being closer to everything else (GeForce 8500GT). I didn't want to be too cheap and realize I could have a lot better performance for a few dollars more.

I'm not much of a gamer. I'm more of a business power user, I guess. I do a little video editing (about a commercial worth a year); a little number crunching (less these days); the most difficult thing I do from time to time is visualization of floor plans. And, maybe more Home Theater stuff more recently.

get a 6670 ddr5 if you are planning to do some lightweight gaming.

After reading the articles on the site and your replies I found a 9800 GT for a good price. With my Nvidia chipset motherboard and SLI I thought an Nvidia card was a good idea.

I'll have to wait and see about getting two of them. I'm still not sure what I would gain, but I'm intrigued by the SLI slot.
