I would go with either r9 290 or gtx 780. I can't tell the difference between having physX on or off and haven't missed since switching to 7970. 3gb of ram should be more than enough, any more doesn't seem to become evident in terms of preformance as shown by 6gb vram Titan being beat by 3gb 780ti.

Yeah, the ti seems too expansive.
