Hello folks,

Just got a new GPU. Played very nicely on Doom (capped 74 FPS, very few drops).

Played a bit of the Rise of the TR that I just bought and after 10 min of playing, FPS drops from 60ish to 5...
🙁

I don't know what is causing that. First time something like this happens. I have no idea on how to proceed and what to look.

So, specs:
i5-2500K (CM T3X)
8 GB Ram HyperX
650 W PSU Seasonic 80+ Gold
a 120 GB SSD for OS
500 GB for games

I did a DDU uninstall. Clean installation of drivers but nothing.

Why would I? Game runs well on high settings. I can play for 10, 20, 30 minutes at those settings, 40 to 60 fps, then suddenly FPS drops to 5 FPS. Something is wrong.
I monitored the GPU usage, and it stays at +90% even after closing the game. Clock stays at max of 1924 Mhz, just as if the game is still running.

Any idea of why?

Hey thanks for your help man. I think I'm getting somewhere though. Yesterday I read some articles about high usage GPU and bitcoin malwares. Read about Process Explorer. Downloaded it and launched it.
What I saw was a rthdcpl.exe taking way too much ressources. Killed the process. Temps instantly went down, gpu usage too, and FPS went back to normal.

So today, I restarted my PC to see and understand more. At first the rthdcpl exe wasn't there (it's a realtek exe btw), but then it came from nowhere and PC started getting noisy. I saw that this exe was in my witcher 2 app data folder.
Process Explorer has a right click option, VirusTotal that brings up a page with info about the process you're searching about. This realtek has bad reputation man.

I don't understand why it's even launching. I mean beside the fact that it could be a malware; why would an exe located in AppData\Local\The Witcher 2\Realtek HD even launch?

I know I'm sounding ignorant. In any case, Windows Defender is performing a full scan right now.
